Sergey A. Popov was born in Tomsk, Siberia, Russia, on August 30, 1969. He obtained his M.Sc. degree at the Department of Physics of the Tomsk State University, Russia, in 1992. The same year he joined the Institute of High Current Electronics (IHCE), Russian Academy of Sciences, Tomsk, Russia. In 2003 he received the Ph.D. degree from the IHCE. His research interests include prebreakdown and breakdown phenomena on liquid-metal surface in vacuum and pulsed electron beam sources based on liquid-metal cathodes.
