Walter P. Dyke served as Staff Member in the MIT Radiation Laboratory.
He then received his PhD in Physics from the University of Washington and
subsequently became Professor of Physics, Head of Department, and Director
or Research at Linfield College. Subsequent positions were with the Linfield
Research Institute and the Field Emission Corporation. In his investigations
in field emission, thermal-field emission, and vacuum breakdown, among
the first done under well-defined experimental conditions, significantly
advanced the knowledge of these subjects.
